Former Rays Willy Aybar gets three months in jail to await trial

Santo Domingo. – A National District Court Monday night sent Major League Baseball player Willy Aybar to spend three months prison to await trial on charges of battering his wife Brunilda Victoria Garcia.

The prosecutors said Aybar is a repeat offender in domestic violence and also accused him of striking two assistant DAs, prompting Permanent Attention Court judge Alejandro Vargas to send him to the jail at Najayo, San Cristóbal (south)

Garcia however recanted her allegation and denied being struck by her husband, and will have to undergo a physical and psychological evaluation to determine the signs of violence, according to the prosecutors in the case.

The prosecutors asked the judge to allow the case to continue even if the victim recants, noting that the man often subjects the woman to his control and she fears losing her economic status.
