Puerto Plata court acquits picher Alfredo Simón

Santo Domingo.- Baltimore Orioles hurler Alfredo Simón was acquitted Tuesday by a Puerto Plata (north) court in the January 1 shooting death of Michael Almonte Castillo, 25.

“The prosecutor didn’t prove the accusation. The prosecution witnesses said that they didn’t see Simón fire his weapon and the experts demonstrated that the projectile that was extracted from the deceased didn’t come from Simón’s weapon,” said defense lawyer Dinora Diloné.

Simón, 29, was accused of shooting and killing Castillo, 25, and of injuring his brother Starlin Castillo, 17, during a New Year’s Eve celebration in the town Luperon.
