No impunity in German “sect” killing, Dominican Police Chief says

Santo Domingo. – National Police chief Manuel Castro on Sunday said his is the agency which has cleaned up its ranks the most, punishing its members and making public their misconduct, a task he affirms won’t waver under his command.

Responding to reactions in the heels of the shooting death of a German in Puerto Plata, Sosua, Castro said he has sent a clear signal of a deep and permanent purge since becoming Chief of Police, for which several officers, including three generals have already been disciplined.

Castro reacted to Santiago archbishop Ramon Benito de la Rosa’s call for renewal and purge in the National Police, noting that it’s the good people who must push to reform it.

German “sect”

Speaking after a mass at Police headquarters, the police chief warned that the probe into the alleged disappearance of two safes and jewelry involves any agent in a raid where the German national died, he will also proceed against them.

Ethics Commissioner

Government Ethics commission president Marino Vinicio Castillo on Monday rejected reports that the Germans in the gated community La Mulata III were innocent residents, and revealed that some of them had been expelled from South Africa for their “racist attitude.”
