Senior leader: ruling party stays mum on corruption cases

Santo Domingo.- Senior ruling party (PLD) leader and cofounder Franklin Almeyda on Tuesday said the organization doesn’t discuss the legal cases against some of the members because they’re in the hands of the courts.

He said the party’s highest echelon; the Political Committee cannot and should not discuss ongoing litigations. "It cannot and should not."

"The themes of submission to Felix Bautista and Victor Diaz Rua are not of the Political Committee, are the courts of the Republic, which must decide the matter," Almeyda said in a statement.

As to the embezzlement cases against senator Felix Bautista and former Public Works minister Victor Diaz Rúa –both close collaborators of former president and PLD president Leonel Fernandez- Almeyda said the Political Committee could take “some sort of stand… depending on the consequences.”
