Minister: Medina was “surprised” in light bill hike faux pas

Santo Domingo.- President Danilo Medina was “surprised on his good faith” by electricity sector technicians, Presidency minister José Ramón Peralta revealed Monday, when an announced jump in the electric bill was repealed.

He said government technicians had told Medina that the increase would be "neutral" and was to strike a "rebalancing" of the rate that wouldn’t affect customers. "In fact it didn’t mean any more income for the government, but when the President s soon realized it affected families, he wasn’t going to allow that to happen."

Peralta, interviewed at the National Palace after meeting with Medina, reiterated that the people are what are most important for the government.
