Antinarcotics busts ‘many’ police agents in cahoots with powerful drug ring

Santo Domingo.- National Drugs Control Agency (DNCD) president Julio César Souffront submitted a report to National Police chief Manuel Castro on Wednesday, which reveals that many police agents in San Cristóbal (south) were in cahoots with a powerful, recently busted ring headed by Cristian Pozo (Matatan), detained along with 10 others.

Souffront lauded Castro’s support in the investigation that led to arrest of Pozo as well as of several agents at San Cristobal’s police precinct, and 3 DNCD agents.

The report says police agents and the other three members of the DNCD allowed drug pushers to operate in at least seven areas of the province. “An intense investigation led to the uncovering of the police officers’ implication with the network headed by Matatan, including three agents assigned to Antinarcotics.”
