Santo Domingo.- The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MIREX) has reaffirmed the Dominican Republic’s commitment to supporting peace and order in Haiti through diplomatic means. In a statement, MIREX emphasized President Luis Abinader’s stance, advocating for an international force to address the turmoil in Haiti. However, the Dominican Republic’s collaboration is limited to diplomatic efforts and will not involve military intervention.
Foreign Minister Roberto Álvarez, in an interview on the “55 Minutes” program, clarified that Dominican collaboration includes trade and binational markets. Notably, the Dominican Republic has supplied fuel to some hospitals and international embassies in Haiti due to the prevailing shortage.
Commenting on the recent agreement between Haiti and Kenya, Álvarez highlighted its significance, seeing it as a crucial step toward potential force deployment in Haiti in the coming months. He also underscored the importance of this matter being part of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) agenda. Consequently, the Dominican Republic has applied to join CARICOM to represent national interests within the region.
