President Abinader calls an urgent meeting of the National Security Council due to violence in Haiti

Santo Domingo.- President Luis Abinader has urgently convened a meeting of the National Security Council to conduct a thorough review of the border situation, prompted by recent incidents of violence and crime in Haiti. The objective of the meeting is to comprehensively address challenges and potential risks that may impact national security.

The meeting is slated to occur at the National Palace at 2:30 in the afternoon, with the anticipated participation of high-ranking officials and security experts. This decision follows a routine gathering of the Citizen Security Table, a weekly occurrence held every Monday at the National Police Palace.

Joel Santos, the Minister of the Presidency, confirmed the information about the meeting and underscored the importance of proactively and collaboratively addressing border challenges, especially considering the current situation in Haiti. The meeting is expected to analyze specific strategies and measures aimed at reinforcing security in the border region and preventing potential incidents.

Through this call, the Dominican Government aims to ensure stability and security both within its territory and in the surrounding region. This underscores the government’s commitment to safeguarding the integrity of its citizens and preserving public order.
