Santo Domingo.- The Government Office of Information and Communication Technologies (OGTIC), in alliance with the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology (MESCyT) and the Universidad del Caribe (UNICARIBE), signed an agreement to award scholarships to 10 public servants in the field of artificial intelligence.
The Master’s Degree in Applied Artificial Intelligence, with a double degree from UNICARIBE and the Tec de Monterrey, will train human talent with knowledge in the area of artificial intelligence, leading them to become agents of change in organizations through the transfer of new technologies.
The postgraduate program includes topics on artificial intelligence applications demanded by organizations and industries today: intelligent software, autonomous mobility, recommendation systems, business intelligence and industry 4.0.
In the same vein, the CiudadanIA project consists of initiating a process of citizen interaction for the collection and processing of data with a view to creating an artificial intelligence model for the public sector to improve the efficiency and quality of public services.
Bartolomé Pujals, director general of OGTIC and executive director of the Innovation Cabinet, explained that the launch of this master’s degree in artificial intelligence, as well as the development of the CiudadanIA project, are part of the National Artificial Intelligence Strategy (ENIA) presented in October 2023, which made our country the first in Central America and the Caribbean to have such a strategy.
“This agreement is a boost to the adaptation and implementation of artificial intelligence in various sectors of the country, increasing innovation, sustainable economic growth and improving the quality of life of people,” said Pujals.
“We are also committed to one of the pillars of the ENIA, which is human talent and innovation #YoSoyFuturoRD, which brings together a multi-sector coalition of companies, academic institutions, government and civil society organizations, with the purpose of developing the workforce, implementing research and development projects,” Pujals pointed out.
The signing of the agreement was headed by the Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology, Franklin García Fermín; Bartolomé Pujals, director general of OGTIC; the rector of UNICARIBE, Dr. Emilio Mínguez Torres, and the chancellor of said university, José Alejandro.
