Santo Domingo.- The Ministry of Culture and the General Directorate of Museums have announced that Santo Domingo’s state museums will remain open during Holy Week, offering educational and recreational opportunities for citizens to enjoy their holiday time.
These museums will be accessible to the public every day except for Monday and Good Friday, operating from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM as usual.
At the Plaza de la Cultura Juan Pablo Duarte museums, including the Museum of Modern Art, visitors can explore the country’s significant visual arts heritage spanning over a century. This collection includes sculptures, drawings, graphic works, photographs, ceramics, video art, and installations.
The National Museum of History and Geography is hosting the photographic exhibition “The Flight of the Butterflies,” paying tribute to the Mirabal Sisters. Additionally, it features the traveling exhibition “Slavery and the Cultural Legacy of Africa in the Caribbean,” providing insights into the diverse cultures, languages, and peoples of Africa, as well as the history of slavery and its abolition in America. Visitors can also explore various rooms dedicated to the Homeland, Presidents, the Era of Trujillo, the Caamaño Guerrilla, museum pieces, and “El Jardín de Hostos.”
The Professor Eugenio de Jesús Marcano National Museum of Natural History offers a collection focused on studying and conserving the biodiversity of Hispaniola and the Caribbean region.
At the Museum of the Dominican Man, visitors can immerse themselves in a collection containing a vast array of cultural assets from the island’s original inhabitants.
The renovated Faro a Colón Museum in Santo Domingo Este presents a permanent exhibition showcasing objects related to the discovery of America from various countries across America, Europe, and Asia.
In the Colonial City, the Santo Domingo Fortress Museum (Ozama) will be open to the public during Holy Week, featuring extended hours until 9:00 PM due to its reopening. Visitors can enjoy immersive and virtual reality experiences, showcasing significant elements of Dominican identity and pivotal moments in the country’s history.
The Museum of the Royal Shipyards displays a valuable collection of national underwater cultural heritage from shipwrecks between the 16th and 19th centuries, utilizing modern technological resources.
The Museum of the Royal Houses or Palace of the Royal Court of Santo Domingo offers the exhibition “In Concrete” by renowned visual artist Marcelo Ferder, featuring 125 pieces of urban, pop, conceptual, recycled, object, and digital art.
