Operation Cayman carries out more than 35 raids in the south

With backing from the United States, anti-narcotics authorities have launched a sweeping operation named “Operation Caimán”  in the southern region of the Dominican Republic.  This initiative involves 35 simultaneous raids across multiple provinces targeting individuals involved in drug trafficking and money laundering.

Commencing at dawn on Wednesday, the operation unfolded in Barahona, Pedernales, Bahoruco, Oviedo, and Vicente Noble, spanning both land and sea. Support from the Dominican Navy’s naval units, as well as aircraft from the Armed Forces and infantry from the Army, underscores the comprehensive nature of Operation Caimán.

The genesis of Operation Caimán traces back over seven months of meticulous intelligence gathering concentrated in Barahona’s coastal vicinity. Helicopters from the United States Southern Command are providing vital air support, while intelligence data is being furnished by the US anti-narcotics agency, DEA.

Initiated more than eight months ago, Operation Caimán has diligently collected intelligence on drug trafficking activities prevalent in the southern region. Recent multimillion-dollar seizures stand testament to the efficacy of these investigative efforts.

The operation has already resulted in numerous arrests and the confiscation of weapons, currency, and other incriminating evidence. Further details regarding these developments are expected to emerge in the coming hours.
