Santo Domingo.- The director of the Santo Domingo Water and Sewerage Corporation (CAASD), Felipe Suberví, attributed the deficit in the supply of drinking water in Greater Santo Domingo to the lack of state investment in the last 25 years.
Suberví recalled that the population is growing every day, residential developments are being built vertically and also expanding horizontally in different properties, and every day there are more people and the same amount of water.
“But we have made progress, the important thing is that we have taken the steps to create the bases and continue moving forward. President Luis Abinader has supported us in a significant way in terms of investment in water. We must be aware of water management, as there is a lot of waste.”
Regarding the Barrera de Salinidad aqueduct, which supplies Santo Domingo Este, he stated that they recovered the four cubic meters and recalled that when he arrived at the position, only two were being produced.
In statements to the press before participating in the mass for the 51st anniversary of the CAASD in the Cathedral Primada de América, Suberví announced that as a result of this work, the Santo Domingo Norte municipality will have 25 million more gallons as of 2025. He pointed out that, however, in the last four years there has been considerable progress and achievements can be shown.
He mentioned the increase in collections, which he says has been doubled and which was previously in the hands of third parties, the increase in water production and the rehabilitation of dozens of ravines.
“It has transformed people’s lives and their surroundings, different treatment plants that we have also delivered in different areas of Greater Santo Domingo, in short, including the ravines and the improvement of housing,” he detailed.
Regarding the water shortages reported in some sectors of Greater Santo Domingo, he said that production has increased slightly due to the rains in recent days, but that he hopes it will continue and that the population will contribute by making good use of the liquid.
“I want to thank God and my family for always keeping me motivated to work, President Abinader, for the opportunity and trust, as well as my CAASD team that has contributed to the success of this historic management and the mission of fulfilling such a vital commitment as the supply of drinking water,” said Suberví.
