Construction guild holds third business meeting with Abinader in attendance

Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Association of Builders and Housing Developers (Acoprovi) held its third business luncheon of 2024, with the distinguished participation of President Luis Abinader Corona.

The event, which took place at a hotel in the city, served as a platform to highlight the association’s goals for this year, focused on continuing to promote the sustainable development and growth of the construction and housing sector in the Dominican Republic.

In this regard, crucial aspects for the construction sector were highlighted, such as improving the process of obtaining permits, promoting good construction practices, and fostering the real estate market.

Annerys Meléndez, president of Acoprovi, stressed the importance of collaboration between the public and private sectors to promote the country’s sustainable development, thus addressing the current challenges of the construction sector. This collaboration, she said, is essential to foster innovation and create a prosperous future in which every citizen can fulfill the dream of owning their own home.

“At Acoprovi, we strive for all Dominicans to have access to decent housing,” Meléndez commented, who also described the participation of President Abinader in this type of meeting as a sign of the government’s support in this arduous task.

In his participation in the event, President Abinader highlighted that, thanks to the implementation of the Single Construction Window through the Ministry of Housing and Buildings, his government has achieved the milestone of reducing by 21% the time for issuing construction licenses and approving more than 53,000 new housing units, tripling the 21,000 of 2019.

Acoprovi’s business luncheon is part of the guild’s activities with presidential candidates to learn about each one’s position on the challenges and opportunities of the housing sector.
