Puerto Plata – The municipalities of Nagua and Imbert, in the provinces of María Trinidad Sánchez and Puerto Plata, respectively, resume their normality, after the torrential rains that affected them caused a trough recorded in different parts of the national territory.
According to a press release, the Administrative Minister of the Presidency, Igor Rodríguez Durán, traveled yesterday to those two municipalities, as well as to the municipal districts of Las Galeras and Veragua (Samaná) to bring social assistance to those affected.
The Presidency’s Social Assistance Plan, the Economic Dining Rooms and the Institute for Price Stabilization (Inespre) distributed food rations through community and religious leaders, who led the corresponding uprisings.
Beds, stoves and refrigerators have also been delivered to hundreds of families who lost everything in the floods.
“We are not going to stop working until we see the full recovery of the families and other sectors that have suffered some damage,” the official said.
In the same way, he praised the work of the members of the Civil Defense, the Red Cross, the Firefighters, Amber Rescue in Puerto Plata, for that first approach with the people.
Also on the tour were the governors, Teodora Mullix Geraldino (Samaná), Juana Rosario de Candelier (Espaillat), Claritza Rochtte (Puerto Plata), and the project director of Mapre, Johnny González.
It is recalled that last Wednesday night, President Luis Abinader, after his return from Washington, United States, called an emergency meeting at the National Palace, with the aim of knowing the details of the rainfall situation in which the national territory found itself.
Yesterday, in Greater Santo Domingo, the rains decreased considerably and in some places, even, stopped.
The Emergency Operations Center (COE) reported in its bulletin yesterday at 1:00 p.m., that according to the National Meteorological Office (Onamet) the trough would continue to cause a humid and unstable environment over much of the country, generating the occurrence of rains of different intensities and frequencies. By virtue of the operation carried out at the Taveras dam, the population located on the banks of the Yaqué de Norte River, from the dam in Santiago to its mouth in Montecristi, must take the necessary preventive measures in order to avoid being swept away by the flooding of the river.
