Indrhi intensifies monitoring of dams due to the weather conditions
Santo Domingo.- The National Institute of Hydraulic Resources (Indrhi) announced this Wednesday that, along with the Dams and Reservoirs Operation Committee (Copre), it is closely monitoring the Hatillo, Rincón, and Tavera dams due to a weather trough affecting the country.
Indrhi’s executive director, Olmedo Caba Romano, reported that recent rains have raised the levels of these and other reservoirs. He noted that the Hatillo Dam continues to discharge into the lower basin of the Yuna River. Specialized teams are deployed in the Duarte and María Trinidad Sánchez provinces to clean channels and drains to facilitate water flow.
Indrhi’s latest bulletin indicates that the dams collectively hold 1,372.22 million cubic meters (MMC) of water, which is 75% of their total capacity.
- Hatillo Reservoir: Currently holds 383.34 MMC, exceeding its maximum volume of 374.88 MMC at 102.3%. The current water level is 86.82 meters above sea level (masl), above its maximum of 86.50 masl.
- Rincón Reservoir: Holds 58.19 MMC, representing 98.0% of its 59.40 MMC maximum volume. The water level is 121.80 masl, close to its maximum of 122.00 masl.
- Tavera Reservoir: Contains 103.36 MMC, 78.4% of its 131.77 MMC capacity. The water level stands at 322.52 masl, with a maximum of 327.50 masl.
- Bao Reservoir: Holds 147.73 MMC, which is 78.7% of its 187.76 MMC capacity. The current level is 322.52 masl, with a maximum of 327.50 masl.
- Monción Reservoir: Contains 194.08 MMC, 58.8% of its 330.13 MMC capacity. The water level is 264.65 masl, with a maximum of 280.00 masl.
- Jigüey Reservoir: Holds 114.70 MMC, 90.1% of its 127.28 MMC capacity. The current level is 538.65 masl, with a maximum of 541.50 masl.
- Valdesia Reservoir: Contains 105.11 MMC, 80.7% of its 130.25 MMC capacity. The water level is 146.78 masl, with a maximum of 150.00 masl.
- Sabana Yegua Reservoir: Holds 236.37 MMC, 69.1% of its 341.84 MMC capacity. The current level is 389.57 masl, with a maximum of 396.40 masl.
- Sabaneta Reservoir: Contains 29.35 MMC, 52.4% of its 56.05 MMC capacity. The water level is 633.36 masl, with a maximum of 644.00 masl.
