Santo Domingo.- President Luis Abinader announced on Wednesday that he has directed the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Roberto Álvarez, to implement significant measures in the diplomatic sector, marking a historic milestone for the country.
For the first time in Dominican diplomatic history, collective promotions within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Mirex) will be conducted in accordance with current regulations and based on the performance evaluations of the officials. This groundbreaking initiative aims to acknowledge and reward the dedication and exemplary work of the diplomats, according to a statement shared by Abinader on his X account.
Additionally, Abinader has ordered the processing of the incorporation into the diplomatic career for active diplomatic officials who, despite meeting the required criteria of time, merit, and professionalization, had not been granted their rightful recognition. This measure aims to address past injustices and ensure that all committed and capable diplomats are appropriately integrated into the diplomatic service.
Furthermore, an immediate call for a free public competition has been mandated to recruit a new cohort into the diplomatic career. This initiative is designed to attract top talents and ensure a foreign service of excellence, capable of effectively representing the country’s interests on the international stage.
These measures underscore the government’s dedication to modernizing the state and strengthening its institutions, promoting a professional, efficient, and equitable diplomatic service, as stated in the official release.
