Dajabón, DR.- Plantain sellers from the border market are urging the Dominican government to lift the ban on exporting plantain to Haiti.
According to the sellers, the plantains sold at the border market are of third quality and are primarily consumed by Haitians due to their specific quality preferences. They report that by order of the Minister of Agriculture, Limbert Cruz, soldiers at the border are seizing large quantities of agricultural products purchased by foreigners.
The vendors stated that they have been facing this issue for several months. Although there was a period of scarcity, there is now an overproduction, causing market saturation.
They described the export ban as excessive, emphasizing that selling these plantains is their primary means of livelihood and essential for supporting their families and fulfilling their personal commitments.
