Rains expected due to Hurricane Beryl, but temperatures will remain warm

The National Meteorological Office (Onamet) reported that weather conditions this Sunday will be dominated by the passage of a tropical wave and the incidence of a weak trough in the middle levels of the troposphere.
Due to this, cloud increases accompanied by passing showers between weak and moderate will occur over La Altagracia, La Romana, El Seibo, Samaná, and Monte Plata since the morning hours.

In addition, Onamet placed the coastal areas from Saona Island to Beata Island and from La Altagracia to Pedernales on weather alert for possible high surf conditions.

In the afternoon and until early evening, local moderate to heavy downpours, thunderstorms, and occasional wind gusts will be generated in Greater Santo Domingo, San Cristóbal, La Vega, Monseñor Nouel, Sánchez Ramírez, among others.

On the other hand, there are also two areas of downpours with thunderstorms associated with tropical waves. The first is located over the Bay of Campeche, with a medium probability (about 50%) of becoming a tropical cyclone in the next 48 hours. The second is located south / southwest of the Cape Verde Islands, with a low probability (about 40%) of reaching the tropical cyclone category in the next 48 hours. Due to their position and displacement, these systems do not threaten the country.

HURRICANE BERYL REACHED CATEGORY 3

The National Hurricane Center in Miami reported that Hurricane Beryl reached category 3, and meteorologists expected it to become a powerful category 4 storm on its way to the southeastern Caribbean.

HOT TEMPERATURES

The Onamet highlighted that temperatures will remain hot due to the time of year (summer). It recommended not exposing oneself directly to the sun’s rays without proper protection, mainly between 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., wearing light-colored clothing, and drinking enough liquids, preferably water, to stay hydrated.
For Greater Santo Domingo, the minimum temperature is between 23 °C and 25 °C and the maximum between 33 °C and 35 °C.
