Foreign Minister Álvarez to attend UN session on Haiti crisis

Santo Domingo.- The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MIREX) announced that Foreign Minister Roberto Álvarez will travel to New York City this Tuesday afternoon to participate in a United Nations Security Council session on the situation in Haiti, scheduled for July 3.

This quarterly meeting, mandated by Security Council resolution 2645, is set to monitor the ongoing situation in Haiti. A report will be presented to decide on the renewal of the United Nations Integrated Office in Haiti (BINUH), whose mandate expires on July 15.

During his visit, Minister Álvarez will attend a working lunch hosted by Canada’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Bob Rae, which will also be attended by Haiti’s Prime Minister, Garry Conille, and Foreign Minister, Dominique Dupuy. The Dominican foreign minister will be accompanied by Joan Cedano, the Dominican alternate ambassador to the UN.
