Puerto Plata boosts security amid tourism surge

Puerto Plata, DR.- A total of 125 new police officers will reinforce surveillance, patrol, and public safety efforts in Puerto Plata amidst a significant increase in tourist activities.

General Jorge Luis Galán Guerrero, commander of the National Police in Puerto Plata, confirmed that the new officers have already begun working on crime prevention.

“Puerto Plata is one of the safest provinces in the country due to effective 24/7 preventive patrols. The arrival of these additional officers, who have been distributed across various locations, is a great benefit for us,” he stated.

He expressed gratitude to the general director of the law enforcement institution, Ramon Antonio Guzmán Peralta, for deploying more agents to “The Bride of the Atlantic,” a tourist destination of international significance, as reported by Nuevo Diario.

“Puerto Plata is currently the main destination for cruise tourism in the entire Caribbean, with transatlantic ships bringing thousands of visitors each week,” Galán Guerrero said.

He also praised the effectiveness of joint patrols conducted by officers from the Northern Regional Directorate and personnel from the Puerto Plata Air Base, commanded by Brigadier General Manuel Abad García Lithgow.
