ASIBENAS honored for fostering synergy between non-alcoholic beverage sector and retail

Santo Domingo.- The National Federation of Merchants and Entrepreneurs of the Dominican Republic (FENACERD) has recognized the Association of Non-Alcoholic Beverage Industries of the Dominican Republic (ASIBENAS) for its outstanding collaboration and synergy with the retail sector, strengthening the ties between the non-alcoholic beverage industry and the country’s merchants.

The distinction was presented during the launch of the “Colmado Seguro” program (Safe Bodega), where the National Institute of Technical Professional Training (INFOTEP) introduced the first specialized audiovisual training for bodegas, aiming to certify over 280,000 bodega owners, employees and delivery personnel nationwide.

Juan Amell Llibre, president of ASIBENAS, accepted the award and emphasized the importance of these small businesses, which he described as pillars of Dominican society, contributing far beyond the economic realm.

“These establishments are not only primary supply points for Dominican families, providing access to food and beverages, but also serve as vital centers of social interaction. Bodegas strengthen community ties, fostering social cohesion and a sense of belonging—essential elements of our country’s social fabric,” Amell Llibre stated.

He further highlighted that bodegas represent a significant productive force in the nation, predominantly family-owned businesses. These establishments are key allies to the non-alcoholic beverage industry, contributing significantly to the local economy through a robust supply chain.

Nicolle Valerio Issa, executive director of ASIBENAS, commented on the association’s joint achievements and described the retail sector as a fundamental partner. “Ninety percent of our products are destined for the retail sector. We deeply value the role they play at the heart of communities nationwide and will continue to collaborate to ensure these essential merchants and their families have the tools they need to thrive,” Valerio Issa said.

The Association of Non-Alcoholic Beverage Industries (ASIBENAS) unites and represents companies manufacturing or marketing non-alcoholic beverages such as juices, nectars, isotonic or sports drinks, flavored waters, malts, soft drinks, energy drinks, ready-to-drink teas and coffees, dairy-based beverages and others. Its mission is to defend the interests of the sector, coordinating common solutions to protect the rights of all its members.
