Santo Domingo.- Between January 1, 2012, and August 26, 2024, the Dominican Republic recorded 2,915,930 births, according to a report by the Central Electoral Board (JCE). Of these, 241,103 (8%) were children of foreigners, while 2,674,827 (92%) were Dominicans. The report did not specify the nationalities of the foreign-born children but clarified that these births do not grant Dominican nationality.

The JCE emphasized that all birth registrations were carried out with thorough verification of documentation, in strict compliance with constitutional provisions regarding nationality and the registration of foreign-born children in the country. The board reiterated that children of foreigners in transit or residing illegally do not acquire Dominican nationality through birth registration but are instead recorded as foreigners, as required by law.

The report also noted that 654,733 births during this period were registered by Delegations of Officials, with 537,154 (82%) corresponding to Dominicans and 117,579 (18%) to foreigners. The highest number of Dominican births occurred in 2015, with 265,410, while the fewest were recorded in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic, with 181,050. The year 2023 saw the most foreign births, with 29,945. The JCE announced that it will publish quarterly statistics on civil registry data on its website, accessible to the public, political parties, and the media.
