Dominican Army arrests workers for illegal sand extraction

Dajabón.- Members of the Dominican Republic Army, stationed at the Loma de Cabrera Military Detachment, have arrested two workers and seized a truck loaded with sand in the El Cajuil community of Loma de Cabrera, Dajabón Province. The arrested workers, identified as Haitian nationals, were found to be in the country illegally. The sand was reportedly extracted from the Dajabón River (also known as the Masacre River).

The driver of the truck, identified only as Marzán, managed to flee the scene. The truck was handed over to the National Environmental Protection Service (SENPA) following instructions from the Provincial Director of the Environment in Dajabón, Oneida González, as legal proceedings are expected to follow.
