Thais Herrera is on the verge of becoming the first Dominican to conquer the “7 Summits” challenge, which involves climbing the highest peak on each continent. On May 22, she successfully summited Mount Everest, her sixth mountain in the quest. Only around 500 people worldwide have completed this feat, including about 100 women.

Her final challenge will be Puncak Jaya, also known as Carstensz Pyramid, located in Indonesia. Scheduled for October, this climb is considered one of the most technically demanding of the 7 Summits, requiring the use of fixed ropes and navigating a suspension bridge at high altitudes.

After a previous attempt in 2022 was blocked due to geopolitical restrictions, Herrera is eager to complete this climb and raise the Dominican flag at the summit. She aims to inspire others, especially women, to pursue their dreams and push their limits. “I feel confident and will be proud to raise our flag high,” Herrera shared.
