National Revisory Assembly approves modifications to seven constitutional articles

Santo Domingo.- The Revisory Assembly approved several constitutional amendments, starting with Article 81, which establishes the composition of the Chamber of Deputies. The chamber will consist of 170 deputies: 158 elected by territorial constituency, five by accumulation of votes, and seven representing the Dominican community abroad, based on a proposal by Assemblyman Ramón Bueno.

Additional Amendments and Adjustments

Articles 166 and 167, proposed by Assemblyman Cristóbal Castillo, were also approved with modifications. Article 166 clarifies the permanent representation of Public Administration before the Contentious Administrative Jurisdiction, while Article 167 reaffirms that the Office of the Attorney General of the Public Administration falls under the Executive Branch. Furthermore, Article 169, suggested by Assemblyman Aníbal Díaz, and Article 171, proposed by Assembly members Pedro Catrain and Aníbal Díaz, were approved, outlining the nomination process for the Attorney General and Deputy Attorneys by the President to the National Council of the Judiciary.

Organizational and Procedural Changes

In addition, Articles 178 and 179, which expand the responsibilities of the National Council of the Judiciary in appointing the Attorney General and Deputy Attorneys, were passed. Assembly President Ricardo de los Santos established a manual voting system, ensuring transparent and efficient decision-making. Two special committees were also formed: the Style Committee, tasked with drafting approved amendments, and the Audit Committee, which will verify constitutional modifications for consistency and accuracy.
