Dominican government submits bill to modernize Labor Code

Santo Domingo.- The Executive Branch, through the Ministry of Labor, submitted a bill to the Senate this Thursday to modernize and update the Labor Code, aiming to expand workers’ rights and improve relations between employees and employers.

Labor Minister Luis Miguel De Camps emphasized that the proposed legislation would provide a modern framework that strengthens workers’ and employers’ rights, while enhancing job creation, productivity, and competitiveness.

Presenting the document to Senate President Ricardo de los Santos, De Camps stated that the bill reflects a consensus between labor and business sectors. He called on Congress to turn the agreement into law, modernizing regulations that are over 30 years old and equipping the Ministry of Labor with greater capacity to enforce these new labor standards. The reform will incorporate new rights, expand existing ones, and further support the Ministry’s enforcement capabilities.
