President Abinader to formalize Constitutional amendment

Santo Domingo.- President Luis Abinader announced that he will visit the National Congress on Sunday to formalize the constitutional amendment.

During a press conference, Abinader emphasized that the new changes, recently approved by legislators, will provide stability, particularly by addressing concerns about presidential reelection. He noted that the reform will end years of speculation regarding potential modifications to allow reelection, bringing clarity to the issue.

The president also highlighted a key reform that grants the Public Prosecutor’s Office greater independence. The appointment of the Attorney General will now require approval from the National Council of the Judiciary (CNM), rather than being solely a presidential decision. Abinader described these changes as crucial for ensuring democratic peace and stability.
