Savings in biggest Dominican bank top US$888.9M

Santo Domingo.- DominicanRepublic´s biggest bank, Banco Popular has 1.27 million depositors with savingsexceeding RD$40.0 billion (US$888.9 million)

, while the number ofactive accounts tops 1.5 million.

The Banco Popular (BPD)figures were disclosed Thursday by vice presidents John Leroux, Francisco Ramirez,Jose Marmol, Esteban Martínez-Murga, during a luncheon with the media to presentthe bank´s campaign "Saving opens doors" to benefit children withcancer.

They executive saidthe campaign seeks to achieve, by promoting the practice of saving, a socialimpact that benefits children with cancer in the Dominican Republic, increasingthe chances of successfully overcoming the disease and increase life expectancy.
