Pest fly prompts Dominican Republic ban on some US agro

Santo Domingo.- The Agriculture Ministry on Thursday announceda ban on imports of fruit and vegetable that host the Oriental Fruit Fly (Bactroceradorsalis) from Florida and regulated their imports from California.

The measure comes inthe heels of several outbreaks in those states and was notified through AgricultureMinistry missive MA-2015-10693 dated October 14, to the US Embassy AgriculturalAttaché.

The Oriental fruitfly is a major worldwide pest subject to strict measures of quarantine from thedamage caused to more than 400 varieties of host fruits and vegetables.
