US$14.7B budget for 2016 sails through Congress

Santo Domingo.- TheSenate on Wednesday approved in two roll calls the bill for the 2016 Budget, ofRD$663.5 billion (US$14.7 billion).

The Senate controlledby the ruling PLD party had passed the legislation in the first roll call on Tuesdayand declared it urgent to pave the way for its immediate approval in the nextsession, which occurred Wednesday.

The 21 senators presentvoted unanimously for the bill that will now pass to the lower Chamber, wherethe Deputies are expected to approve it.
