Santo Domingo.- Nearly10,000 undocumented Haitians who were living in the Dominican Republic havereturned to their country, Haitilibre.com reports Thursday.
The outlet cites data gatheredby a group formed by three human rights organizations which monitor the border:the Returnees and Refugees Support Group (GARR), the Jesuit Refugees andMigrants Service (JRS), the Jeannot Exito Border Network (RFJS) and theInternational Organization for Migration (IOM).
It said 9,012 undocumentedHaitians living in the Dominican Republic had returned to Haiti by November,divided into 3,191 repatriations and 5,821 voluntary returns.
This figure includes174 unaccompanied minors, most of them having lived in Las Matas de Farfan,Santo Domingo, Santiago and San Juan de la Maguana. The number of Haitiansrepatriated by Dominican Immigration declined 25% from October to November,with 4,344 repatriations.
There was also asignificant increase in voluntary returns in November from the previous month, a47% jump compared with last October, when 3,053 returned to Haiti.
