‘King Marijuana’ nabbed at Dominican-Haiti border

Santo Domingo.- Police antinarcotics (DICAN) agents arrested a man Sunday night accused of heading a ring of Dominicans and Haitians which smuggles drugs across the Dominican-Haiti border, known as ‘King Marijuana’ in the underworld.

National Police spokesman Jacobo Mateo said Haiti-Dominican national Asolín Vil Perez has a prior arrest by the National Drugs Control Agency (DNCD), which seized 400 pounds of marijuana and is also charged with two murders and injuring a Dominican Army Lt. Col. in 2011, in Jimaní.

He said the drug was stored in a building in Jimaní, with a night club in the first floor to allegedly disguise their operations, "having mastered the Spanish language perfectly, making it easy for their trips to the neighboring nation,."

The official said the investigation determined that the ring distributed 300 pounds of marijuana in the capital weekly, specifically in the barrios of Capotillo, Guachupita and Sabana Perdida, and the cities of Santo Domingo Oriental, Boca Chica and some provinces, profiting around RD$3.5 million.
