Las Americas Highway expansion starts Tuesday: Mayor

Boca Chica, Dominican Republic.- The Public Works Ministry will start next Tuesday the expansion of the Las Americas Highway and build overpasses, returns, pedestrian bridges and side roads in both sides.

After a tour of the highway on Monday with Public Works Ministry Appraisals Dept. director Roque Ventura, Boca Chica mayor Daniel Ozuna said the work began long ago but was halted by the contractor Grupo Rizek.

He said the first stage will span the Las Americas Technological Institute (ITLA) after Las Americas Airport, and to the Shell station located at the entrance to the main town of Boca Chica, 32 kilometers east of Santo Domingo.

The mayor of the beach town said the land for the construction camp located 30 kilometers east from the capital, has already been cleared, adding that the equipment and machinery will start arriving Tuesday.
