Cabarete, Puerto Plata.-On Friday April 24 the US Embassy announced support for the Mariposa Foundation in Cabarete during one year for its art and culture program for 120 girls at risk in Cabarete.
The announcement was made by Embassy Public Affairs official James Russo with Patricia Suriel and Jacqueline Guzman Mirabal honorary Board presidents, Dominican-American writer Julia Alvarez and Jacqueline Guzman Mirabal, daughter of one of the late three Mirabal sisters, assassinated during the Trujillo dictatorship.
In a statement, the Embassy supports the program with US$16,000 with which will host the visit of six artistic educators of the organization "Artists Striving to End Child Poverty" (ASTEP) to support the cultural program for girls at risk in Cabarete. “This program, these artists, throughout this year, will positively impact the lives of 120 girls from slums of Cabarete through education in different types of modern and classical dance, theater, music and singing, among others.”
