Journalists ask Dominican Republic leader to avert a murder

Santo Domingo.- Dominican Journalists Guild (CDP) president Olivo De León on Friday expressed solidarity with colleague Salvador Holguin, producer of the TV program Hilando Fino, who denounced an alleged plot to kidnap and murder him.

He said he met with Holguin and other journalists who’re liaisons with the National Police and the military over the “very disturbing revelations,” into the case of ex-convict Quirino Paulino and a reported political campaign debt owed by former president Leonel Fernandez.

Holguin said he’s been constantly harassed after his program aired an interview with the former drug baron.

He said at least four senior military and Police officers including generals and colonels are involved in the alleged plot against him, and requests president Danilo Medina’s intervene to avert a tragedy.

De Leon requested an urgent meeting with Medina to hand over a list of the senior Police, Air Force and Navy officers, which Holguin affirms take part in the plot.
