OAS to send mission to Hispaniola on ‘immigration crisis’: EFE

Washington.- The Organization of American States (OAS)will send a mission to Dominican Republic and Haiti between July 10 and 14 citingan “immigration crisis” on Hispaniola, EFE reports quoting sources.

OAS Political Affairs Secretary Francisco Guerrero will headthe delegation together with Gabriel Bidegain, advisor to OAS secretary generalLuis Almagro.

The mission, announced by Almagro in last week’s specialPermanent Council starts in Santo Domingo Friday and ends Tuesday in Port auPrince.

"The aim is to assess on the ground the immigrationstatus of Haitians to facilitate a lasting solution to regularize the status ofimmigrants, because we cannot forget that immigrants, regardless of their legalstatus, have the same rights as all people," said Almagro during thesecond special OAS Permanent Council on the crisis between Haiti and DominicanRepublic.
