Medina orders an additional 1,800 cops, 2,350 troops to fight crime

Santo Domingo.- PresidentDanilo Medina ordered an increase in joint patrols with an additoinal1,800 policeand 2,350 soldiers in every street in the country to fight crime.

His instructions cameTuesday during a National Palace meeting with senior military and police officials,prosecutors and Presidency chief of staff Gustavo Montalvo, among others.

Newly appointedPolice chief Nelson Peguero said the patrols begin immediately, aimed atbolstering public safety.

During a pressconference with other heads of military departments, Peguero asked the citizensto have confidence in his tenure. “I will work day and night to bring peace andmaintain public safety.”
