Santo Domingo.- Haitipresident Michel Martelly on Sunday said Santo Domingo and Port-au-Prince "musttry" to solve their common problems mostly the differences over DominicanRepublic´s policy on immigrants.
Speaking in Port auPrince the Haitian president sought to downplay the conflict between the twonations in the wake of the Dominican government plan to regularize foreigners,whose results are defended by Dominican authorities, who affirm that it has benefited nearly300,000 people mostly Haitians.
Haiti however accusesDominican Republic of stoking a humanitarian crisis over the repatriationexpected to occur when the program concludes, and has demanded recognition as Dominicansto all Haitians who were born in its territory.
"The peoples andgovernments of Dominican Republic and Haiti should try to solve their problems;the fact that there are differences does not mean that these problems will notbe solved," Martelly said, after months of tension between the Hispaniola neighbors.
