Santo Domingo – More organizations join the efforts for the signing of a ‘Pact for the Protection of Animals’ promoted by Listín Diario, which has received the support of the Dominican Federation for Animal Rights (FEDDA).

On this occasion, the Ombudsman, as well as the Council for Economic and Social Development of Santo Domingo (CODESSD), and the Parque del Prado Pet Cemetery have expressed their support for this initiative.

“Activities of this nature encourage the proper and dignified treatment of these living beings that are also part of the family, but have no voice,” said the Ombudsman, Pablo Ulloa, in a letter addressed to the editor of this newspaper, Miguel Franjul.

“I make myself available and join in the responsibility of the fight against animal abuse,” Ulloa said.

CODESSD also congratulated the project and promised to join in joint actions to achieve higher levels of protection, health, and development of animals.

“You can count on our full support,” said the organization’s president, Samuel Sena, in a letter.

Parque del Prado, the first pet cemetery in the Dominican Republic, has considered “crucial” the idea of taking concrete measures to guarantee the safety and dignity of pets.

“We firmly believe that the signing of this pact is a crucial step towards a future in which animal rights are recognized and protected in our country,” said executive vice president, Gina Victoriano Collado.

Listín Diario’s initiative has already received the support of President Luis Abinader, as well as some candidates for office in the upcoming elections and representatives of various social sectors.

The Israeli embassy in the Dominican Republic, through its representative Raslan Abu Rukun, also joined the project, after he sent a letter last Thursday 2nd to the editor of the newspaper.

“I have followed step by step the progress of your proposal together with the Dominican Federation for Animal Rights (FEDDA) and I have been pleased to see the support expressed by the presidential candidates and various figures of national life, so I can already say that it will be a success,” said Abu Rukun.

The Israeli ambassador said that his country has positioned itself as a leader in public policies for the protection of animals, by approving advanced laws and implementing practices that serve as a reference to friendly nations.

“It will be a great honor to be part of the history they are beginning to write with a social issue that transcends the sublime.”

The signing of the Pact for the Protection of Animals is scheduled for Monday, May 6, from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., at the premises of the Listin Diario, on Paseo de los Periodistas Street in the Miraflores sector of the capital.
