Medina hands over 900-hectare agro project to 400 families

Duverge, Dominican Republic.-President Danilo Medina on Sunday handed over nearly 900 hectares to 400families in El Espartillar, Duvergé (west), keeping a promise made in October,2012.

The farming projectwhich emerged from a surprise visit to the community features a modernirrigation system, to benefit hundreds of families displaced by lake Enriquillo´sflooding.

"Mr. Presidentyou have given us back faith and hope," said Duvergé ranchers association presidentDalvis Garcia, thanking Medina for benefiting them with a title.

Agrarian Institute(IAD) director Emilio Toribio said the project includes 101 livestock ranchers and364 farmers to benefit 2,558 people and create around 900 jobs.
