Santo Domingo.- The DominicanArmy on Sunday graduated 113 military enlistees on the basic protection of people,courtesy and military discipline and human rights in immigration detentions, mostof whom will be deployed to "Operation Shield" at the Haiti border
The announcement comesin the heels of local media reports of arrest of dozens of Haitians trying to againcross the border into Dominican Republic, which has tightened its restrictionon the influx of undocumented aliens.
Defense minister MaximoW. Muñoz said the training was ordered to heighten security along the border withHaiti.
Dominican Army commanderJose E. Matos handed the certificates for the 3-month course and urged furtherwork to secure the border and ensure peace throughout the country.
"We´re sendingmore troops to strengthen our border, it´s the Defense Minister´s priority,"Matos said.
