Dominican pork producers lead region, work to stay that way

Punta Cana, DominicanRepublic.- Representatives from 17 countries on Wednesday discussed ways toimprove the breeding of hogs, in two gatherings whose opening was headed by presidentDanilo Medina in eastern Altagracia province.

In the meeting Agricultureminister Angel Estevez said Dominican Republic´s 80,000 sows make it CentralAmerica and the Caribbean´s biggest pork producer.

He said theGovernment takes steps to increase pork production and stressed that the projectto eradicate classic swine fever at more than 20 points is being carried out withestablished international protocols.
