Decree aims to turn Dominican Republic into global freight hub

Santo Domingo.-President Danilo Medina on Tuesday signed executive order 262-15 which establishesthe legal framework to regulate the operation of logistics centers in thecountry´s international cargo terminals.

The Presidency saysthe measure will exploit Dominican Republic´s strategic position and the good transportinfrastructure to develop one of the most important industries for internationaltrade.

It said the legal frameworkwill allow the country to become a maritime freight transport hub, especially withthe traffic of Post Panamax ships once the Panama Canal´s expansion concludes.
