Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Episcopal Conference (CED)oon Wednesday asked the politicians for anelectoral campaign “with a behavior at the height of a professional of politics”where candidates make reachable promises and often based on dirty money.”
In the missive the Dominican catholic bishops also ask the politicosto give “a vote of confidence” to the Central Electoral Board to organize thecontest. “Let us support the administrative measures in the process. Let us bejealous and vigilant over our democracy.”
It said they regret that during election cycles “the economicsupport of the parties in electoral periods is based on dirty money, whetherfrom drug trafficking, gambling, tax-evading companies or the dilapidation of statefunds.”
“Our people yearn for political activities developed basedon the programs which the parties offer, their possibility of execution andadhering to priorities and the problems that affect our Dominican society as awhole,” they said, adding that “a campaign based on false or unrealistic promisesis also not desirable.”
