IMF keeps close tabs on Dominican economy’s performance

Washington.- Central banker Hector Valdez Albizu met Saturdaywith International Monetary Fund (IMF) Western Hemisphere Dept. director AlejandroWerner, to review the Dominican economy’s performance and strengthen technicalcooperation.

At the meeting the official also expressed concern with theclosing of the correspondence with banks, a decision he affirms is hurtinginternational trade and could have negative consequences on financial systemsworldwide.

In a statement, the Central Bank said the Staff Reportprepared by the IMF mission that visited the country for consultation, wasapproved without debate by its Executive Board, due to the Dominican Republic’sgood performance.

Valdez’s visit took place as part of the spring meetings ofthe IMF and the World Bank, from April 13 to 16.
