Flash flood warnings continue; southern highway severely damaged

Santo Domingo.- The Emergency Operations Center (COE) on Wednesdaysaid the flash flood, swelled rivers and mudslide warnings continue for fourprovinces and Greater Santo Domingo.

In a bulletin, the COE said the warnings continue forDuarte, Monte Plata, San Juan and San Pedro.

It said flooding from the latest downpours damaged 263 homesand destroyed 12 others, and 1,375 people had to be evacuated.

It also reported that three washed out roads and four damagedbridges had cut off seven communities.

Severe damage to major road

For its part, the Public Works Ministry said the downpours ledto the collapse of abutments and embankments on the Azua-Barahona road (south),where equipment is removing the debris prior to repairs.
