Icon Dominican Republic beach town to get a second wind

Las Terrenas.- President Danilo Medina on Sunday met with businessand community leaders in Las Terrenas, Samana (northeast), where he listened toconcerns ahead of an awaited new push to consolidate and enhance its already vibranttourism.

In a surprise visit Medina heard firsthand what it takes toenergize further develop tourism in a zone whose beaches are preferred byEuropeans and Canadians.

For the head of state, tourism spurs Dominican Republic’s economy,especially agriculture and construction, a reality he affirms will lead thegovernment to do everything to surmount hurdles.

As part of the solutions requested by investors and thecommunity figure sewage treatment, a hospital, improved trash collection, acemetery and paved roads.

Medina, who named a commission to coordinate his next visit,told the mostly French investors that the government will work closely withother agencies to improve the legal framework to promote protect and encourage foreigninvestment.
