Top prosecutor caves to pressure, union boss back to jail

Santo Domingo.- Justice minister Jean AlainRodriguez on Monday announced that truckers’ union boss Blas Peralta will be returned to La Romana prison(east), after a medical evaluation found that his health is stable.

The official’s announcement comes just hours afterwide rebuke by sectors against the transfer to a minimum security jail of thealleged murderer of Santo Domingo State University (UASD) former rector MateoAquino.

Peralta was transferred to a correctionalfacility just north of the capital supposedly on health concerns.

Commission

Also announced Monday was a commission of formerUASD rectors and deans, in addition to the lawyer for Aquino’s family, toprevent impunity in the murder case.
