Equipment convoy off to Puerto Plata to repair washed out roads

Santo Domingo.- the Public Works Ministry senta convoy of heavy equipment that was set to depart at 8am Wednesday on the Duartehighway to repair damages in Puerto Plata and other areas caused by the sustaineddownpours.

Flooding from the rains has damaged infrastructureincluding roads, bridges, country lanes and brought down several walls in schools.

The landslide and flooding have damaged hundredsof homes in urban and rural areas and washed out a stretch of the Santiago-PuertoPlata highway.

Provincial governor Iván Rivera headed ameeting noon Tuesday to coordinate a response to the calamities caused by theprolonged rains.
