Santo Domingo.- Dominican Republic Hotels and Tourism Association (Asonahores) president Joel Santos on Sunday denied that the hotel sector brakes the law that stipulates that at least 80 percent of a company’s workforce must be Dominican, as Labor minister José Ramón Fadul affirmed Friday.

He said instead of complaining, what Fadul should do is proceed against those who truly break the Law, “instead of making flighty denunciations.”

“In hotels you will find that the vast majority are Dominicans. It’s true that there are foreigners, just like any industry, there may even be Haitians, because of the French language, but they are legal,” Santos said, noting that the percentage of foreigners “are well below the obligatory 20%.”

Interviewed on Channel 45, the business leader said the tourism sector expressly supports all of Dominican Republic’s labor norms, and called on the entire sector to comply with the 80/20 rule.
